Questioned Document Analysis
The question may arise as to whether a document has been produced by using a specific typewriter. If the machine has developed defects due to damage of the character typeface or mechanical operation, it may be possible to identify that specific machine as the source of a questioned document by a forensic analyst. In addition, examination of the carbon coated Mylar-style ribbons may develop the verbatim text of the document in question. In cases where the typewriter is not available, the examination of the specific style of typeface may yield information as to the brand and/or model of possible machines used to produce the document.
